TPG MEETING - May 6, 2008 - 7:30pm

Throwing Large

Have you ever wanted to throw 12 pounds of clay? 15? ?

Mary Ann Purser is noted for her large bowls and platters with their beautifully carved rims. Mary Ann will demonstrate using leverage to center large amounts of clay on the wheel. You don’t have to have superior strength, just some know how that she will graciously be sharing at the May TPG meeting.

Who We Are:
The Triangle Potters Guild (TPG) was founded in 1982. We are a not-for-profit organization formed to promote the art and craft of ceramics in the community and to provide a forum for local potters and ceramic artists to share their experiences and knowledge of clay. This knowledge is passed on through guest speaker presentations, member's show and tell, informative newsletters, workshops, shows, sales and a library that features both books and videos. The Guild is comprised of professional and recreational potters and ceramists, as well as people simply interested in ceramics in the Triangle Area of North Carolina.  The guild is open to clay-workers at all levels of experience, and to those who don't make pottery but are interested in it!   Sample work of some of our members can be viewed in our member Gallery.

Our membership includes professional production potters, studio art potters, serious amateurs, hobbyists, beginners, ceramics educators, sculptors, collectors, and everything in between. For $25/year for individuals, $37 for families, and $15 for full time students, TPG members receive a monthly newsletter published 9 times a year; can attend the monthly meetings; have access to the guild library of books and videos; receive discounts to the sponsored workshops, and have an opportunity to participate in the Guild's shows and sales. You may download a membership form or email us with questions.

Where we meet:
Meetings usually include announcements and guild business, followed by a presentation by a clay artist, frequently including slides or demonstrations or both. Other meeting topics have included tips on photographing pots, and suggestions for marketing work to galleries and at home shows. Visit our Events page for pictures from a recent meeting. Our monthly newsletter includes announcements of shows and other sales opportunities, classes, workshops, and more.

Our monthly meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month (no meetings June, July and August) at 7:30 pm.  We meet at  516 Brickhaven Drive, in Raleigh, North Carolina.   Call the Crafts Center at 919-515-2457 for directions. Visitors are welcome!
