I opened my clay studio, Susisolar Clayworks, in 2000, after 20 years being a full time solar energy advocate. My studio is in my solar home.

 

I primarily make handbuilt pottery starting with a slab of clay. I make both functional and ornamental items. Much of my inspiration for making and decorating pottery comes from the plant world. The herbs,  flowers and wild things growing in my yard and in my path as I travel find their way into my clay.  Each piece has real leaves pressed into the clay before it is fired. The leaves burn out, leaving an impression that I enhance with glaze or  underglaze, making them appear to be alive in the clay after they are fired.  I hope you enjoy these images of nature.
